What is an RGF Rapid Recovery Unit and how does it work?
The RGF Rapid Recovery Unit is a portable treatment unit built around PHI-Cell (Photohydroionization) technology. Rather than spraying a liquid into the ductwork, the unit generates advanced oxidants from ambient humidity and oxygen and circulates them through the HVAC system and the treated space. Refresh Duct Cleaning uses it as a treatment step after mechanical source-removal cleaning, most commonly for persistent odors and after water intrusion or remediation work. It is an addition to physical cleaning, not a replacement for it.
Sequence matters more than the technology
Treatment is applied to surfaces after contaminants have been physically removed, and only once that removal has happened. Applying anything over accumulated debris treats the surface of the problem and leaves the material underneath in place. Physical source removal does the work. Treatment is a supplementary step that makes sense in specific situations, not an automatic add-on to every job.
How PHI-Cell technology works
A PHI-Cell uses a broad-spectrum UV light source and a hydrated quad-metallic catalyst. As air passes across the cell, humidity and oxygen in the air are converted into advanced oxidants, which are then distributed through the duct system and the space. Because the oxidants travel with the air, the treatment reaches surfaces and areas throughout the system rather than only where a technician can spray.
The Rapid Recovery Unit is the portable, higher-output version of this technology, used for a concentrated treatment during a service visit. The in-duct version installed permanently is the REME HALO.
When it is warranted

When it is not
It is not warranted as a routine upsell on every cleaning, and we do not present it that way. It does not fix a moisture problem, replace a cleaning, or substitute for correcting whatever caused the odor in the first place.
Odor is a source problem first
A persistent smell from the vents has a cause: a wet drain pan, growth on a coil, a dead animal in a duct run, moisture in duct board liner, or something that got into the return. Masking it does nothing. We identify and address the source, then treat the system if treatment is still called for.

Does this eliminate viruses or bacteria?

Is it safe around pets and children?
The unit is run during a service visit with the property unoccupied, and we will discuss timing and re-entry with you before treatment. Tell us about pets, birds or anyone in the home with sensitivities when you book.
Does it replace duct cleaning?
No. It is applied after physical cleaning. Treating a system that still contains accumulated debris treats the surface of the problem and leaves the cause in place.
Why does my system smell when it first kicks on?
That pattern usually points at the coil or drain pan rather than the ductwork. Moisture sitting on those surfaces between cycles is a common cause in Florida. Coil cleaning is often the actual fix.
