Is air duct cleaning a scam?
The service is legitimate. A lot of the marketing around it is not. The scam pattern is a very low advertised price, a technician who arrives and finds an urgent reason the price must rise, and a job that amounts to a shop vac behind a few registers. That is not duct cleaning to any standard. Ask any company three questions: is the system under continuous negative pressure, is every run individually agitated, and is the air handler included. The answers sort the field quickly.
Will duct cleaning damage my flexible ducts?
It can if the wrong tool is used. Aggressive rotating brushes tear the inner liner of flex duct, which is where a lot of the industry's bad reputation came from. We use compressed-air whips and air-sweeping tools selected for the duct material, which clean flex without contacting and tearing the liner. Tool selection follows the material, which is one of the things the inspection determines.
How much does air duct cleaning cost?
Whole-home air duct cleaning starts at $499. Final price is driven mainly by the square footage of the home, plus the number of HVAC systems and the condition of the equipment. We can give you a price over the phone from those details. What drives the cost.
Will duct cleaning fix low airflow?
Sometimes, and it depends where the restriction is. A heavily fouled blower wheel or evaporator coil genuinely restricts airflow, and cleaning those restores it. But low airflow is just as often an over-restrictive filter, crushed or disconnected flex, undersized ductwork or a failing blower motor. Cleaning will not fix any of those. The inspection tells you which one you have before you spend anything.
